When someone dies, their estate should be effectively and properly administered to address

• disputes or misunderstandings among heirs
• subsequent ownership claims
• tax considerations
• creditor items
• avoidance unnecessary costs

Certain tax filings, disclaimers and other elections must be registered within 9 months of death.  Even with smaller estates, typically assets must be discovered and transferred, tax returns must be filed, creditors must be notified, along with many other housekeeping-type tasks.
